Famous Laois café to reopen six years after fire

The famous tea rooms and restaurant had to close following a fire in February 2019
A FAMOUS Laois restaurant and café will reopen next week, six years after a devastating fire forced its closure after 36 years in business.
Quinn's Tea Rooms in Abbeyleix will open its cheerful yellow front door on Friday 25 July, restoring a much-missed venue on Main Street.
Countless celebrities have walked through that front door since Quinn’s first opened in 1983, including Seamus Heaney, Bob Geldof, Gay Byrne and Penelope Keith, but the café has always been first and foremost a favourite meeting place for local families and friends.
Owner Marie Quinn was heartbroken when a sudden early morning fire destroyed the kitchen area in February 2019, shortly after she arrived to bake fresh bread as usual.
Fortunately, her own immediate action and the prompt arrival of the fire service helped to contain the blaze, but the business had to close indefinitely due to extensive smoke and water damage.
Quinn’s Tea Rooms specialises in traditional home baking, with a beautiful outdoor coffee garden at the rear of the large restaurant area, which has been completely refurbished following the fire.
The Quinn family have been synonymous with business in Abbeyleix for decades and previously ran a busy grocery on Main Street.
