Fishertown Tractor and Truck run raises €42,000 for Laois Hospice Foundation

ON Saturday 15 August, the Fisherstown tractor and truck run committee presented a cheque for €42,568.57, the proceeds of its tractor and truck run, to Laois Hospice Foundation.
The run started back in 2008 and has since gathered tremendous support from the local community and businesses. This year’s run took place in Ballybrittas and ran down Portlaoise Road, Lea Road, Kilmullen and through Emo.
As in previous years, the run saw a huge response from the community, alongside other businesses in the area. On the eve of the event, a spokesperson for the organising community highlighted the massive amount of work that goes into organising the run behind the scenes and praised the community of volunteers that made the run and the subsequent fundraising possible.
In a statement, Mary Delaney, chairperson of Laois Hospice Foundation, highlighted how delighted the hospice is to receive the substantial amount of money raised through the charity event. She explained that the money would enable Laois hospice to continue funding much-needed palliative homecare services and would give them the financial ability to be able to provide and develop more services.
The chairperson also outlined some of the other services the hospice provides and stated that the funding will go towards bereavement support, children’s counselling, alternative therapies and a trained volunteer service, which is in the final planning stages.
