Four new gardaí have been assigned to Portlaoise Garda Station.
The news has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil TD Seán Fleming, who said the allocation of four new probationary Gardaí to Portlaoise, "will strengthen frontline policing and help keep our local communities safe."
Deputy Fleming added: "The allocation follows today’s attestation of 207 probationary Gardaí at the Garda College in Templemore whom we wish well in their new jobs. Following their graduation, the new members have now been assigned to Garda divisions across the country.
"We now have the highest numbers of Gardaí since the foundation of the State at 14,980 and follows sustained progress in Garda recruitment."
Sean Fleming T.D. said: “ More recruits will enter the Garda College next week, and this demonstrates a strong commitment to increase garda numbers in communities across the country.
The allocation of four new Gardaí to Portlaoise is particularly welcome. Every additional Garda strengthens our local policing service and helps ensure our communities receive the support and protection they deserve.
Deputy Fleming, said visible policing plays a vital role in preventing crime, supporting victims, and providing reassurance to our communities. Continued investment in Garda recruitment and resources is essential to ensure An Garda Síochána can meet the demands placed upon it.
He concluded by stating: "Today’s allocation means more Gardaí on our streets and stronger, safer communities.”
