FUNERAL arrangements have been announced for a young Laois man who tragically died in a crash near his home.
Colm Lynch O’Sullivan (22) lost his life in the collision at Ballaghmore, on the R445 road between Borris-in-Ossory and Roscrea, at about 3am on Thursday.
Predeceased by his sister Grace, he was a dearly loved son of Olive (Lynch) and Con O’Sullivan and will be sadly missed by his brothers Brendan and Tomás, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, niece, extended family and all his friends.
His remains will repose in Tierney’s Funeral Home, Roscrea on Sunday from 4pm to 7pm.
Funeral Mass at 11am in St Molua's Church, Ballaghmore will follow removal from his home in Cloncourse at 10.30am, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Colm loved cars and worked at O’Sullivan Motors in Roscrea, his father's well-known garage and motor dealership. His death has devastated his family, friends and the local community.
Colm was driving and was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Emergency services were alerted at about 3.15am but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Expressing his deepest condolences to the family, Rathdowney councillor John King said the popular young man's death has caused a huge sense of shock and loss in the area.
Cllr King said: "It is a terrible tragedy, the loss of a young man who was just starting out in life. To be taken away at only 22 years of age, when he should have had a long life ahead of him. There are no words, nothing that can be said to take away his family's grief at such a loss."
A forensic collision investigation was carried out at the scene and gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with camera footage from the area between 3am and 3.30am, including dash-cam, is asked to make it available to gardaí.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
