GARDAÍ from the Laois Roads Policing Unit have been out since early this morning Wednesday 16 July on roads around Laois as part of their national day of action targeting uninsured drivers.

In a post on social media they said: “Our message is clear.

We are actively identifying those driving without valid insurance - We are prosecuting offenders under Road Traffic legislation - We now have enhanced access to the Irish Motor Insurance Database, allowing us to check insurance status in real-time using mobility devices.

They said: “Driving without insurance is a serious offence that can result in fines up to €5,000. Disqualification from driving. Imprisonment.

“This operation is part of our continued commitment to road safety and holding those who break the law accountable.

“Checkpoints will be conducted throughout the day – don’t take the risk.”
