Laois applicants encouraged to apply when new Garda recruitment campaign launches this spring

New garda recruitment underway

Keep your eyes peeled this spring as a new 2025 Garda Trainee Recruitment Campaign will launch. Successful applicants may be considered for intakes into the Garda College in Templemore during 2025 and 2026.

Phase One Foundation Training in the Garda College is 36 weeks, during which Garda Trainees will receive an allowance of €354 per week. While resident in the Garda College, accommodation and meals are provided by An Garda Síochána. At the same time, Trainees are working towards achieving a Level 7 Bachelor of Arts in Applied Policing.

Upon successful completion of Phase I, Garda Trainees are attested as members of An Garda Síochána and commence their probationary period (normally two years from attestation), and commence on a starting salary of €37,111, correct as at 1st October 2024. By year five the salary increases to €46,631, and this is before allowances.

That’s the pay and benefits out of the way – but why should you become a member of An Garda Síochána?

With a mission of “Keeping People Safe” a career as a member of An Garda Síochána is a challenging and exciting one. It provides varied, skilled work where you’ll make a tangible difference. You will serve the people of Ireland, by upholding law and order and by engaging positively with local communities. You will work to prevent and solve crime, and improve the lives of others, particularly the most vulnerable in society. You will be in a position to bring meaningful, positive change to the local area you work in, building relationships and trust within the community.

Please note that an applicant must, by the closing date be proficient in either or both Irish and English and have obtained the following:

1. An Irish Leaving Certificate with a grade D3 or O6 minimum in five subjects at Ordinary Level*; or 2. A minimum of a Level 5 Major award (120 Credits) on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ); or 3. A recognised qualification (at Level 5 or greater), deemed comparable to the above in terms of both level and volume of learning as determines by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

Subjects taken at Foundation Level Leaving Certificate are not considered equivalent for entry to this competition. In certain cases, a Pass in the Applied Leaving Certificate may be deemed equivalent to an Ordinary Leaving Certificate. A H7 grade is also deemed equivalent to an O6 grade.

For those who won’t have completed the Leaving Certificate in time for this campaign, be reassured that there will be additional Garda Trainee recruitment campaigns in due course.

Those between 18 and 49 years who are interested in a rewarding career as a member of An Garda Síochána can register on publicjobs.ie in advance. For more information, please visit here.
