Laois company sets up Brussel-focused support group

THE Laois-based CJ Sheeran Group, Ireland’s leading manufacturer of timber pallets, is setting up a Brussels-focused alliance to strengthen the sector’s voice during business and supports negotiations Wood Pallets for Europe.
The group’s membership is in charge of a variety of manufacturing and repairs and manages a significant share of wooden pallets in circulation across Europe, supporting resilient, circular and efficient supply chains across Europe and beyond.
Collectively, the alliance has built one of the industry's largest wooden pallet ecosystems and aims to engage through the new grouping Wood Pallets for Europe with EU institutions and policymakers in a single, credible and influential voice.
In a statement, the alliance said: “We will engage in data-driven advocacy to build awareness of wooden pallets' inherent sustainability â taking into account the unique characteristics and benefits of wood as a natural, renewable and sustainable material â while seeking to prevent legislation that disproportionately affects wooden pallets.” The chair of Wood Pallets for Europe Jan Ponnet added: “As Europe advances its circular economy agenda, we look forward to contributing our expertise to ensure future legislation reflects the specific characteristics of wood and supports the diverse circular systems that keep European supply chains moving.”
