Laois family offering €1,000 reward for safe return of missing cat
Pippin has been missing since 15 December 2025
A FAMILY in Mountmellick are hoping for the safe return of their pet, a one-year-old cat named Pippin.
Pippin is described as a black-and-white mix with a bushy tail that “stands tall as he prances.” He has medium-to-long length fur, yellow eyes and a black patch under his chin.
He has been missing from Ballicollig, Mountmellick, since 15 December 2025. His owner, Joanna Stynes, says he was a rescue cat.
“I was getting a brain tumour removed”, Ms Stynes tells the “I wasn't fond of cats, to be honest with you … My son rescued him … and I wasn't too happy.” Ms. Stynes had 60 staples in her head. During recovery, Pippin became a comfort. “I just fell in love with him”, she says.
“He’d come up to you, and he’d give you love … He was always purring, and he was just a lovely cat.” Ms Stynes and her family are offering a €1000 to anyone who can find Pippin.
“The community down here is absolutely amazing in Mountmellick”, says Ms Stynes. “They pulled together.” Pippin is neutered and chipped. He is described as soft-natured, not fearful and extremely approachable.
“I'm kind of frightened somebody has taken them, to be honest with you”, says Ms. Stynes.
