Laois gardaí appeal for witnesses after elderly man dies in tragic road incident

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident at Tullyroe, Abbeyleix, The incident happened this morning,  Saturday 27 June 2026, at approximately 10:05am.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of the incident in which a moving car left the road and struck a second (parked) car.

The male driver of the first car (aged in his 90’s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The coroner has been notified.

The second car was unoccupied at the time. No other injuries were reported at the time.

The road was closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R433 near Tullyroe, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, this morning, Saturday 27th June, 2026 between 9.30am and 10.15am, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
