Laois kids love chilling out at their new snow home

The Igloo even has a big window - Dermot Bannon would be impressed!
A group of kids from Ballyroan have designed and built a new state-of-the-art home that would put RTÉ Room to Improve architect Dermot Bannon to shame!
On Sunday, 5 January, six siblings and friends began building an igloo on the green in their estate, The Cross of Newtown, Ballyroan, Co. Laois. Jubilee (16), Sarah (15), Daniel (13), and Mercy Wittmer (9) along with Keelin (14) and Lochie O'Brien (10) spent over 13 hours across two days on creating the ice building. Persevering, despite a significant portion being vandalised between the days and the changing texture of snow, they created a structure standing just under 2 meters high. They built a small window, a shelf for a lantern, and low snow benches. The crew enjoyed the fruit of their labours by having a meal, playing board games and having snacks inside their igloo. Snow school in action with some academic subjects in the mix!!
