Laois people are invited to avail of native Tree Giveaway

Laois PPN in collaboration with Portlaoise Tidy Towns, is offering people from across Laois to attend a ‘Free Native Irish Tree Give Away’ event which will be held during National Tree Week 2025 as part of our Climate Action Project.
The event will take place this Saturday 8 March 2025, from 10am to 12 noon, in the Macra Na Feirme Hall on the Timahoe Road, Portlaoise.
Vincent Booth, chairperson of Portlaoise Tidy Towns said, “Portlaoise Tidy Town and Laois PPN look forward to welcoming Community Groups from across Laois to our ‘Free Native Irish Tree Give Away’ at Macra Na Feirme Hall. Tree planting combats climate change, promotes biodiversity and enhances our landscape.” Dan Bergin, Laois PPN co-ordinator, added: “Laois PPN are delighted to collaborate with Portlaoise Tidy Towns on this initiative which coincides with the start of National Tree Week. Our annual “Free Native Irish Tree Giveaway” has grown each year, with this year being the 3rd year, we looking forward to a large attendance from Community Groups across Laois on the day”.
You can pop along and collect a Free Native Irish Tree, with advice on hand from Brian Gaynor of Trees on the Land, who will guide you through the wide variety of Native Irish Trees that will be available.
There will be Arts & Crafts on the day for young people, and a raffle with the winner receiving a prize of a ‘Free Gardening for Biodiversity Consultation’ by T&C Gardens which includes plants and accessories worth €250.
