Laois restaurant to close after 30 years

Long-running Abbeyleix restaurant Papa Noni will close on 14 September

A POPULAR Laois café and restaurant will close its doors in September, after 30 years in business.

Papa Noni takeaway restaurant in Abbeyleix announced its forthcoming closure today, due to the retirement of owners Tony and Joan Mezzapelle.

The long-running restaurant specialised in Italian food but also served European dishes, coffees and snacks and was a thriving business for three decades on the town’s Market Square.

Making the announcement on social media today, Tony and Joan thanked customers and friends as they said: ‘After 30 unforgettable years of serving this amazing community, we’ve made the heartfelt decision to retire and close the doors of Papa Noni’s. Our final day of service will be Sunday, 14 September.

‘We would like to thank you for the support, loyalty and friendship you’ve shown us over the years.

We also want to extend our deepest thanks to our incredible suppliers, partners and hardworking staff, who have helped keep our kitchen running and our guests happy over the decades. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without you.

‘While this chapter is coming to a close, the memories and relationships we’ve built will stay with us forever. We hope to see as many of you as possible before we say goodbye.’
