Teacher Evangelin Durojaiye will be sadly missed

A LAOIS secondary school has announced the untimely death of a popular and highly regarded teacher.

Portlaoise College confirmed the death of teacher Evangelin Durojaiye, in a tribute today that offered sympathies to her husband and children.

Ms Durojaiye taught Spanish and History at the secondary school, having joined its staff only a year ago.

Portlaoise College management said on social media: ‘It is with profound sadness that we write to inform you of the untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague, Mrs Evangelin Durojaiye.

‘Evangelin joined Portlaoise College last August as a teacher of Spanish and History and she also served as the class tutor for 1D.

‘From her very first day, her warm personality and student-centred approach left a lasting impression on staff, students and parents alike.

'Always greeting others with a smile in the corridors, Evangelin brought a sense of joy and kindness to our school community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.'

The school added: 'At this difficult time, our thoughts are especially with her husband, James and their children. We extend our heartfelt condolences to them and to all who are grieving her loss.’

The college confirmed that Ms Durojaiye was laid to rest in the Phillippines on Monday 21 July.

Management said: ‘We are thinking of you all as Evangelin's funeral takes place today in the Philippines. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.'
