Laois senator shocked at 'brazen' man in her car

A LAOIS Senator was shocked to discover a “brazen” man in her car, while it was parked in the driveway outside her home.

Portlaoise resident Senator Maria McCormack said she got “an awful fright”, when she looked out her sitting room window and saw a man in her car. When she went outside, the intruder ran away.

Gardaí are investigating the disturbing incident, which happened at around 8.15pm on Sunday night.

The Sinn Féin Senator has urged people to be on the alert, following the frightening incident in a local housing estate.

Posting a warning on social media the following day, she said: ‘Last night at around 8.15pm, I caught someone inside my car in my front garden!

‘A reminder to everyone to double-check that your cars are locked and never leave anything valuable inside, even if you’re only leaving the car for a few minutes.

'It’s frightening how brazen some people can be, especially at that time of the evening. Please be vigilant and keep an eye out for your neighbours too. Stay safe everyone!’

In reply to worried followers, Senator McCormack said: ‘We’re all fine, the guards were super. Just be vigilant, it’s an awful fright to get.’

The incident is being investigated by Portlaoise gardaí, who can be contacted at 057 8674100.
