Locals to have say on Mountmellick plan
The walk-in clinic will be the first public consultation on the Smiths Field masterplan
LOCALS will have their say on the future of Smiths Field in Mountmellick, when Laois Co Council hosts a public consultation clinic in the town next week.
The walk-in clinic on Monday, 5 October will focus on the development of a masterplan for Smiths Field, the town’s largest public park that has suffered ongoing antisocial behaviour, fires, vandalism and dumping.
The masterplan aims to transform the park with a design that will significantly enhance the area and connect it the rest of the town. The public consultation clinic will run from 4pm to 7pm at the Mountmellick Development Association (MDA) building in Irishtown.
The walk-in clinic will be the first public consultation on the Smiths Field masterplan. A council spokesperson said that the event would provide “an opportunity for the people of Mountmellick to have their say”.
The project is managed by the Regeneration Section of Laois Co Council, which has appointed Daniel Woodroffe Group Ltd to prepare the masterplan design. Their representative, Mehron Kirk, will be available at the walk-in clinic, where people are invited to share their views and suggestions on the future design of Smiths Field.
The tender for the masterplan design, which was issued by the council last June, was for the creation of a ‘visionary’ plan to rejuvenate the park, which would include a new housing development and active travel routes to link Smiths Field to the town centre.
