LAOIS will feature in national coverage of Culture Night this weekend, when RTÉ is set to broadcast a live musical performance by members of two local Men’s Sheds.
The performance will be the backdrop to ‘a morning of community connection and cultural expression’, when the latest Connect Café is held in the Compass Community Hub on New Road, Portlaoise, at the offices of Connect Laois.
Connect Laois said: ‘To further enhance the relaxing vibe of the morning, attendees can enjoy their conversation and shared community spirit to the sound of live music, courtesy of members of the Rathdowney and Mountmellick Men’s Sheds.
‘RTÉ is expected to drop in for the session, which will be fantastic publicity for this local organisation that provides support, information and resources to like-minded men across Laois.’
Part of the Laois Connects Social Prescribing Programme, which links people to community-based activities and support services to improve their overall health and wellbeing, the Connect Café is a means of boosting social inclusion.
Small groups gathering to enjoy coffee, pastries and conversation in a relaxed setting, where new friendships are forged alongside the strengthening of existing ones.
Organised locally by Social Prescribing link worker Shauna Williams, supported by Mental Health Ireland and funded by Laois County Council for Culture Night, this special edition of the Connect Café will run from 11am to 12.30pm this Friday, 18 September.
