National cinema weekend takes place this weekend in Laois
The Odeon Cinema in Portlaoise
THIS weekend will mark nationwide national cinema weekend, an event where participating cinemas throughout the county make tickets available for prices as low as €4 (RSP).
The initiative is supported by and has been running since 2022, initially starting as a measure to boost cinema attendance in the wake of the covid pandemic. Previous national cinema days recorded over 200,000 admissions in a single day, proving that the measure was effective in significantly boosting audience attendance.
Approximately 99% of cinemas in Ireland participated, offering a wide variety of new and recent releases for audiences to enjoy, including family favourites – especially now that schools have reopened.
Cinemagoers will also benefit from additional screenings catering to diverse audiences, including sensory screenings along with additional subtitled and captioned screenings at various cinemas.
Ireland has the highest screen density per capita of any country in Europe, with an average of one cinema screen per 10,000 people, which Screen Ireland argues serves as a sterling example of the Irish public’s love of the cinema.
