New GP practice opens in Portlaoise

The Killeshin Medical Centre has been erected on a vacant site beside the KIlleshin Hotel in Portlaoise

TWO Laois-based doctors have announced that they will be opening a new medical centre in Portlaoise.

The Killeshin Medical Centre has been erected on the site of a former residential bungalow on the east side of the Killeshin Hotel; the site had previously been used for medical practices but has been vacant for some time.

The new medical practice will be staffed by GPs Dr Maaz Seerath and Dr Zafar Ul Islam and opened today (Monday).

Both doctors have trained and worked in Ireland and say that their aim is to provide accessible, high-quality and patient-focused healthcare to the local community.

Discussing the motivation behind the new opening, Dr Maaz Seerat said: “Portlaoise is a growing town with new families and communities moving into the area all the time. We wanted to build something that would grow alongside the town and provide patients with a GP service they can rely on for years to come."

The practice will provide consultations to both medical card and private GP patients and will provide a broad range of services, including those tied directly to women’s and men’s health, musculoskeletal care, chronic disease management and all other general services you would expect to see delivered by a general practice.
