PEOPLE from across Laois and surrounding counties flooded into Mountrath on Saturday 18 April to celebrate the launch of a new padel tennis court at business Padel00s' free open day.
The event offered the public the opportunity to explore the brand-new padel courts and gym spaces, with guided tours available throughout the day.
Alan Phelan, organiser of the event, said: "We are so excited to finally open our doors to the local community and introduce people to padel. It’s a fun and social sport that is easy for anyone to pick up and this open day is all about giving people the opportunity to experience it in a new state-of-the-art environment."
Padel, a unique mix of tennis and squash, has grown rapidly in popularity across Ireland in recent years, with this new facility aiming to bring this exciting sport to the heart of the midlands.
The new facility brings the total available padel sites in Laois to three. As well as the one in Mountrath, they can also be found in Durrow and Barrow Valley Business Park, Graiguecullen.
The Mountrath facility has two courts on offer, booked through the software Playtomic.
The event was hosted in collaboration with Mountrath Health & Fitness Academy and Bloom HQ, which has proved an important organisation for people in Mountrath as a hub for health, fitness and community wellbeing.
