Only one priest for three parishes in Borris-in-Ossory

THE WEEKEND of 1 and 2 August will see one priest on duty for three parishes in Borris-in-Ossory.
Fr John Robinson P.P. will say Mass in all three main churches: in Camross on Saturday evening at 7:30pm, in Castletown on Sunday morning at 9:30am, and on Sunday morning in Borris-in-Ossory at 11am. There will be no Mass in the other churches.
Fr Robinson will cover for Fr Brian Griffin, who is typically in charge of Castletown and Camross, as he is on holiday. Fr Robinson says he and Fr Griffin takes turns covering for each other when one of them goes away.
This arrangement has been in place for years, says Fr Robinson, who adds that the lack of available priests reflects “the way life is gone”.
In 2025, only 13 men started studying to becomes priests at the national seminary in Maynooth, signalling a dramatic decline in interest in the vocation.

Friday 1 August is the First Friday. There will be Morning Mass in St. Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory at 9.30am.
The St Vincent de Paul Collection will be taken up on Sunday, 2 August.
