Overnight water restrictions in Laois due to low reservoir levels
Customers affected are those supplied by the Ballyadams Reservoir, part of the Kyle Water Scheme.
UISCE Éireann, the state body responsible for providing water and wastewater services to houses and businesses connected to the public water system, has introduced overnight restrictions for some customers in Laois to safeguard daytime supply.
Customers affected are those supplied by the Ballyadams Reservoir, part of the Kyle Water Scheme. Areas impacted include Ballylynan, Ballycorman, Ballyadams, Ballintubbert, Crannagh, and the surrounding areas.
The restrictions started the night of Wednesday, 27 May, and will be in place from 10pm to 7am each evening until further notice. In a statement, Uisce Éireann says the restrictions are necessary due to demand outstripping supply at the reservoir.
“Given the increased demand and dry weather, we need to ensure a daytime water supply is available for homes and businesses while we allow reservoir levels time to recover overnight. We continue to ask customers to be mindful of their water usage during this time”, the statement continues.
James Joyce, water treatment operations manager for counties Offaly and Laois, said: “We understand the impact of overnight restrictions, but these measures are necessary to ensure continuous daytime supply for homes and businesses while we allow the reservoir levels time to recover.”
Members of the public can report any leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278 or online at Report a Leak.
