PEOPLE in Laois are invited to have their say on the development of a new greenway between Portarlington and Monasterevin.
Six potential greenway routes between the two towns are being examined by county councils in Laois and Offaly, in cooperation with project leader Kildare Co Council.
Two public information events for locals to get involved will be held next week, one in each town. The first will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 25 November at Monasterevin Community Centre, while the second will run from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday 26 November at Portarlington Enterprise Centre.
A feasibility study to examine the potential for a new greenway is underway and six potential routes have been identified.
A baseline study that has been completed examined population and human health, landscape, green and blue infrastructure, biodiversity, waterbodies, soil and geology, drainage, structure and traffic, air, noise, climate, built heritage, archaeology and cultural heritage, recreation and tourism, as well as climate action.
The project is still in the early stages and has reached the 'options' stage, with local authorities seeking public input on the potential route options.
People who live, visit or work near Portarlington or Monasterevin are invited to share views and information to help shape the project, as it moves towards selection of a preferred option.
Submissions can be made online or in writing to Kildare Co Council at A/Senior Parks and Landscape Officer, Parks and Open Spaces, Level 7 at Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co Kildare.
Submissions should be titled 'Monasterevin to Portarlington Greenway - Feasibility Study and the deadline for submissions is 4pm on Friday 19 December.
