Portlaoise AFC pays sad tribute on death of beloved dad

PORTLAOISE AFC has paid heartfelt tribute on the death of Robert Flanagan, beloved husband of club secretary Caren (née Murphy).
A strong supporter of the soccer club, the father-of-three passed away peacefully on Sunday 26 July.
As a mark of respect, Portlaoise AFC is inviting all club members to join a Guard of Honour at the funeral prayers this Thursday.
In a tribute on social media this afternoon, the club said: ‘It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Robert Flanagan, beloved husband of our Club Secretary Caren, brother-in-law of our Club Treasurer Alan Murphy and devoted father to Jack, Luke and Sadhbh.
‘On behalf of everyone at Portlaoise AFC, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Caren, Alan, Jack, Luke, Sadhbh and the entire Flanagan and Murphy families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this incredibly difficult time.
‘As a mark of our support and respect, we invite all club members to join us in forming a Guard of Honour at the funeral prayers, which will take place at Life Church, Portlaoise (R32 HA21) on Thursday evening at 7.30pm.
‘We encourage as many members as possible to attend, as we stand together in support of the Flanagan and Murphy families and pay our respects to Robert.’
Formerly from Tallaght, Dublin, Robert lived at Lake Glade in Kilminchy, Portlaoise with his young family.
His death notice on RIP.ie today states: ‘Beloved husband of Caren and dearly loved father of Jack, Luke and Sadhbh. Robert will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken family: his mother Pauline and father Bob; brothers Jimmy and Ian; mother-in-law Lelia and father-in-law Joe; sisters-in-law Caroline, Catherine, Carina, Leila, Antoinette, Raisa, Suzanne and Rebeccah; brothers-in-law Alan, Joe, Kevin, Ciaran, Eoin and Ian; nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and many friends in Shamrock Rovers and Portlaoise Soccer Club.

‘Funeral prayers will take place at the Life Church, Portlaoise (R32HA21) on Thursday evening at 7.30 pm. Cremation will take place on Friday in Newlands Crematorium.
