Portlaoise café thanks customers as doors sadly close

The bakery and café sent a message to customers as the doors sadly closed

A FAMILY-RUN bakery and café in Portlaoise thanked loyal customers, as the doors sadly closed after only six months in business.

R32 Artisan Bakery and Coffee Shop opened on the ground floor of Dunamaise Arts Centre in early January, with a strong focus on fresh baking and local produce.

As hospitality businesses continue to struggle, the large café on Church Street closed permanently on 19 July, a week earlier than the previously announced closure date of 26 July.

In a message on social media, the R32 team said: ‘After a wonderful journey filled with fresh bakes, warm coffee and even warmer connections, today marks the final day of our bakery and coffee shop.

‘We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every single one of you who walked through our doors, shared a smile, supported our small business and made this place feel like home. Your loyalty and love meant the world to us.

‘This chapter is closing, but the memories will stay with us forever. Thank you for being part of our story. With all our love and appreciation.’

It was a sad day for the Hungarian team behind the venture, particularly manager Tibor Noda, his wife Anett Horvatk and his mother Tilda Korodi, who worked front of house and have worked in catering for many years.
