Portlaoise Court: Crunch time for Pringles teen

The case was heard at Portlaoise District Court
A COURT sitting in October will be crunch time for a teenager, who is accused of stealing a box of Pringles crisps from a supermarket.
The 15-year-old, who cannot be identified due to his age, is charged with theft of a tub of Pringles worth €3.50 from the Lidl store, Portlaoise on 7 July last year.
The juvenile was brought before Portlaoise District Court last Thursday, having failed to appear the previous week.
When his name was called and he was not present on 17 July, Judge Andrew Cody commented: “Gardaí had to go out to his home. The time and petrol it took was more than the cost of the €3.50 box of Pringles.”
The judge adjourned the case to 24 July and instructed gardaí to notify the juvenile’s mother.
When the teenager duly appeared last Thursday, defending solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client was doing well. He was involved in boxing and was staying out of trouble. At the time of the alleged theft, he was with a number of other juveniles.
Adjourning the case until 16 October for an updated probation report, Judge Cody warned him to stay out of trouble in the meantime.
The teenager replied: “Thank you very much, Judge.”
