Treasures on Main Street will close on 29 August, after 33 years in business

A LANDMARK Portlaoise store is to close its doors for good, after more than three decades in business.

Treasures gift store on Main Street, which has been at the heart of the town for 33 years, will close down on 29 August.

Owner Louise Dunne made the announcement on social media tonight, as she sent ‘a heartfelt goodbye’ to customers.

She said: ‘After 33 wonderful years, it is time to say goodbye. It has been an absolute pleasure to look after all of our lovely customers through the years.

‘Thank you for your loyalty, support, friendship and all the laughter along the way. Thinking of Wynne who was with me when we first set up this dream.

‘Thanks to all the wonderful staff who were also part of the journey.’

The announcement was greeted with dismay by many fans and followers of the popular store, which was renowned for its personal touch.

One wrote: ‘Fabulous shop … never left without buying something, the loveliest people to deal with. Louise always a lady.’

Another said: ‘I am so very sorry to read this news. 33 years is a long time but I have to say from when you and Gwen (RIP) opened ‘Treasures’ on the Main Street it was always my favourite shop to call into and I would never come out of the shop without something very different and special.’
