Power cut in Laois after lorry topples ESB wire

NEARLY 2,000 properties were without power in Mountrath this evening, after a lorry struck an electricity line in the town centre.
The power cut happened shortly before 6pm, when a low-hanging wire was pulled down by a truck.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident which happened on the R445, around the corner from the Spar store in Market Square.
According to passers-by, a low electricity line was pulled down by a truck as it drove along the street.
The fire service and ESB crews are at the scene and the line is expected to be repaired before 7.30pm.
The outage affected 1,886 properties in Mountrath, according to the ESB.
ESB Networks said it was working to restore power as quickly as possible and apologised for the loss of supply.
: 85 properties are still without power, with an estimated restoration time of 11pm.
