Serving up a storm at Laois school fundraiser

Having a wonderful time at the coffee afternoon in Timahoe NS
A FEELGOOD fundraiser in a local primary school was truly a family affair, as children served their parents and grandparents with delicious home-baked treats in aid of a vital cause.
The weather may have been miserable but spirits were high in Timahoe NS on Friday 3 October, when pupils held their annual coffee afternoon in aid of Laois Hospice.
Scoil Mhuire Fatima principal Michael McEvoy pointed out that the event has become a permanent fixture on the school calendar, adding: “The children take great pride in helping out this wonderful charity.”
Parents and pupils were busy baking the previous evening and put on a wonderful spread of cakes, buns, biscuits and other treats for everyone to enjoy.
Both parents and grandparents were waited on by the children and were rightly very impressed by the efficient service.
Deputy principal Aoife Buckley was thrilled with the response from children and their families that made the afternoon such a success, raising €347 for the hospice.
Ms Buckley said: “There was great excitement in the lead-up to the event. The children were delighted to have their parents and grandparents in the school and they took their job very seriously!
“The adults seemed very happy to come in and have a coffee and a chat while supporting a great cause. A big thank you to them for supporting the event and for all the baking. Thanks also to the staff and children for all the hard work.”
