Shenanigans in Laois as election posters stolen claims one candidate

Ahead of polling day on 29 November Independent candidate Elaine Mullally claims her election posters had been removed from nearly 30 locations around Laois.
THERE were widespread claims and allegations in June’s local elections in Laois that election posters had been defaced, stolen and interfered with. Indeed during most elections such claims are regularly made by candidates.
Now with just a couple of weeks to go to the general election on 29 November the first of such claims have been made by the Portarlington based Independent candidate Elaine Mullally.
In statement on the matter Ms Mullally, “condemned the theft and removal” of her election posters, which she said have affected nearly 30 locations across Laois, including prominent placements along the Dublin Road in Portlaoise.
She said that her posters are crucial to her first-time campaign and have “reportedly been replaced by those of party-backed candidates” and described it “deeply unfair” and urged all candidates and their campaign teams “to show respect for one another’s materials to ensure a fair election.”
She said: “As a first-time candidate who has largely self-financed this campaign, I find it incredibly unfair to face these issues. I believe Laois deserves real change, and every poster that’s removed or stolen undermines my ability to connect with voters and share my message for a better future.”
She emphasised the challenges faced by Independent candidates who lack the resources available to established political parties. Without access to state funding or the support of party headquarters. Unlike party-backed candidates who can reuse posters and campaign materials from past elections.
Ms Mullally said: “I don’t have the luxury of reusing old party posters, state funding, or a party HQ to support me. Every single poster represents a personal investment in my campaign and in the people of Laois, whom I am dedicated to representing independently. This unfair treatment makes it even harder for true Independents to gain visibility in this election.”
Despite these challenges, Ms Mullally says she remains resolute in her commitment to advocate for the issues that matter most to Laois, including housing, autism services, and accountable representation.
