A SOLAR powered litter bin was stolen from an area that has been described as “a hidden gem,” in Portlaoise.

Cllr Marie Tuohy told her fellow councillors at the March meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District Council that a litter bin had been taken from Hynd’s Square and asked for it to be replaced.

She said that the Square, just off the Main Street in the middle of the town, “In many ways, is a hidden gem. It’s a lovely area and lovely seating there. Coming into the summer, hopefully it will be used more. The bin was stolen and hopefully it can be replaced.”
