Street lights needed in busy part of Laois town

Street lights are needed along Well Road between Main Street and the Ballacolla Road in Abbeyleix said local councilors
STREET lights are needed on a busy area in Abbeyleix. The area where they are needed is along Well Road between Main Street and the Ballacolla Road.
That’s what cllr John Joe Fennelly asked for at the recent meeting of councillors from the Portlaoise Municipal District Council.
“The section of road is at the bottom of Abbeyleix town,” said cllr Fennelly, “it’s a side road that leads onto the Ballacolla Road, right beside the new juvenile soccer pitch out by Stone Arch.”
He said: “There’s no lighting or footpath on the road that has at least four houses along it. All the children heading down to the soccer pitch are using that road.”
Supporting the motion cllr Barry Walsh said that with the soccer season taking place in winter months and in dark evenings it would be important to have street lighting in the area.
