A STUNNING mural made from 25,000 bottle caps has been unveiled in a Laois village, spreading wonder and good cheer among locals and visitors.

Not for the first time, Clough residents proved they have a lot of bottle as they painstakingly collected colourful caps for over three years.

Spearheaded by Clough Tidy Towns and supported by the entire community, the tireless effort was richly worthwhile as the vivid artwork designed by local woman Victoria Dobbyn is a joy to behold.

People of all ages diligently kept their bottle caps in bags to donate to the mural, which features a picturesque panoply of local landmarks and wildlife. Drop off and collection points were established for the bottle caps, with recycling cages placed in the GAA club grounds.

With the help of Clough NS students and other volunteers, the caps were then separated and sorted by colour before each one was glued to the mural. The spectacular result was officially unveiled with pride on Sunday 22 June, at the entrance to the GAA club.

The Clough Tidy Towns committee said: ‘A huge thank you to Victoria Dobbyn for designing this beautiful mural, which captures everything that makes our village special.

‘Gratitude to Maureen Dobbyn, Josie Rafter and Cllr John King for their support in making it a reality and for all they do for our school and pre-school.

‘To all the amazing volunteers who sorted, glued, nailed — your hard work made this possible. Special thanks to Aidan Bergin, John Burke and Phil Malone for their tireless efforts.

‘Thanks also to SuperValu for kindly donating refreshments for our post-unveiling gathering in the hall. This has truly been a community effort and a fantastic achievement for our small but mighty village!’
