Successful Portarlington tractor run raises money for a local cause
Members of the Portarlington Lions Club hold a cheque for €2,000 from Irish renewable energy company, Galetech Group
THE roads of Portarlington were abuzz earlier this week with the sounds of a tractor convoy.
The Portarlington Lions Club recently held a successful tractor run in aid of a local child who needs necessary psychological and educational assessments.
An annual event, this year’s tractor run featured a children’s circuit, with each child receiving a prize on the day.
The event was organised with the help of local sponsorship, including €2,000 from Irish renewable energy company, Galetech Group Galetech is currently working on the Cushina Wind Farm project, a proposed 11-turbine wind energy development that would see the creation of wind turbines with blade tip heights of up to 220m, each expected to generate around 6.0 - 7.2 megawatts of energy.
The proposed windfarm project would be located in the townlands of Clonsast and Raheenakeeran, Co Offaly.
Deirdre Keegan, Galetach Group Community Liaison Officer, said: “Galetech Group is very proud to be part of the Portarlington Tractor Run this year. The event has raised some important funding for a local child in need of these psychological and education assessments.
“We are working towards a sustainable future, and this extends beyond the renewable energy we generate. Galetech strives to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner for the benefit of all of our stakeholders, including those living close to our wind farm.”
