Orla Ffrench being presented with her Certificate of Participation in the Club Competition by Mark Bastow

PORTLAOISE Toastmasters met recently in Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue for their International Speeches and Evaluation competition.

Members and guests were warmly welcomed by the group’s president Steve O’Rourke before Mark Bastow took over as Toastmaster for the evening.

Mark introduced contestants Irene O'Shea, Donal Cahill and Phuong Thai, and three amazing speeches were delivered.

The second half of the evening included a test speech by Des Phelan, which was evaluated by Orla Ffrench, Phuong Thai and Mary Killeen. Each evaluator provided constructive feedback to the speaker along with tips on how to improve.

First place in the International Speech Contest went to Donal Cahill for his talk entitled 'A new normal', while Mary Killeen won the evaluation competition.

The winners, or a representative, will represent Portlaoise Toastmasters Club in the Division D International Speech and Evaluation contest in the Anner Hotel, Thurles on Sunday 13 April. All members are encouraged to attend.

Portlaoise Toastmasters meet once a month in Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue, Main Street, Portlaoise and guests are always welcome. What do you have to do? Just turn up! If you have any questions about Toastmasters please email toastmastersportlaoise@gmail.com or phone Martina on 087 2358095.
