THE young man who tragically died in a crash in Laois this morning has been named locally as Colm Lynch O'Sullivan from Cloncourse, Ballaghmore.
The 22-year-old lost his life in the collision not far from his home in the early hours of this morning.
The crash happened in the Ballaghmore area, on the R445 road between Borris-in-Ossory and Roscrea, at about 3am. Colm was driving and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Emergency services were alerted at about 3.15am but Colm was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Colm loved cars and worked in his father Con O'Sullivan's well-known garage and dealership, O’Sullivan Motors in Roscrea. His death has devastated his family, friends and the local community.
Expressing his condolences to the family, Rathdowney councillor John King said the popular young man's death has caused a deep sense of shock and loss in the area.
Cllr King said: "It is a terrible tragedy, the loss of a young man who was just starting out in life. To be taken away at only 22 years of age, when he should have had a long life ahead of him. There are no words, nothing that can be done to take away his family's grief at such a loss."
Colm was dearly loved son of Con and Olive (Lynch) and was predeceased by his sister Grace.
The family death notice published this evening states: 'Colm passed tragically on 26 June. Predeceased by his sister Grace. Dearly loved son of Olive and Con.
'Sadly missed by his brothers Brendan and Tomás, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, niece, extended family and all his friends. Rest in peace.'
Funeral arrangements will be announced later for Colm, who was originally from Roscrea.
