Truck overturns at Portlaoise roundabout

A TRUCK carrying hay bales has overturned at a Portlaoise roundabout, causing lengthy traffic delays.
Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are urged to avoid the Togher roundabout at Junction 17 on the M7 motorway.
The truck shed a large load of hay bales at the roundabout, blocking traffic at the busy interchange.
At about 2pm today, Laois-Offaly gardaí warned: ‘Following a road traffic incident, motorists are requested to avoid the roundabout at Junction 17, M7, Portlaoise.
‘Traffic is extremely slow and emergency services are working to resolve the issue. Please drive with care.’
By 3pm, the truck had been removed but a large stack of hay bales is still being cleared from the roundabout, where Laois Fire and Rescue Service crews are assisting gardaí.
Traffic is reduced to one lane at the busy roundabout, which leads to the Portlaoise Plaza and Midway Foodcourt as well as Portlaoise town and the Abbeyleix road.
