Uisce Éireann lifts overnight restrictions in Laois as reservoir levels stabilise

The restrictions were introduced to safeguard daytime supply while raw water reservoir levels recovered.

UISCE Éireann, the state body responsible for providing water and wastewater services to houses and businesses connected to the public water system, has lifted the overnight water restrictions that had been in place for several days for customers in Laois.

Since Wednesday, 27 May, customers supplied by the Ballyadams Reservoir, part of the Kyle Water Scheme, have faced water restrictions between 10pm and 7am every day due to demand outstripping supply at the reservoir because of dry weather. People in Ballylynan, Ballycorman, Ballyadams, Ballintubbert, Crannagh, and the surrounding areas were impacted.

The restrictions, which were introduced to safeguard daytime supply while raw water reservoir levels recovered, are no longer required and supply has now returned to normal across the affected areas.

James Joyce, water treatment operations manager for counties Offaly and Laois, thanked customers for their cooperation during the restrictions and encouraged continued water conservation.

“We would like to thank the community for their patience and support while these measures were in place”, he said.

“While restrictions have now been lifted, we continue to ask all customers to be mindful of their water usage, particularly during periods of increased demand and dry weather.”

Uisce Éireann said in a statement that, while supplies have stabilised, ongoing pressure on water sources during prolonged dry conditions can impact local water levels.

The group reminds customers that “careful water use remains essential to help protect these vital resources and ensure a sustainable supply for homes, farms and businesses”.

Members of the public can report leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278 or online via the Report a Leak section on water.ie.
