FOLLOWING the tragic death of Romanian-born Adina Raluca Constantin, a vigil was held to commemorate her memory on Friday 17 July in Portlaoise Memorial Park.

Over seventy people from across the community gathered in the park to share their memories of Adina and to express their condolences to the family; several wreaths were laid out in the garden, including ones with white and purples roses. At the commemoration, a representative for Adinas' family read out a statement on behalf of her family who were in Romania arranging affairs for the funeral, which took place last Saturday, thanking everyone gathered for their support during these very difficult times.

The family who were facing significant financial challenges in paying for Adinas' funeral and arranging her reparation organised a GoFundMe page to help with the costs. It was organised by one of her family members who said this in a statement:

"We are heartbroken to share that we have tragically lost our beloved Adina Raluca following an act of violence. I am a member of Adina’s family and we are devastated by this unimaginable loss. During this incredibly difficult time, we are facing significant financial challenges in covering the costs of her funeral and repatriation."

One woman who spoke for those gathered in Portlaoise had the following message for Adinas' family.

"I want you to know that we all stand together in memory of Adina. We honor her memory with love, respect and compassion. Yesterday Adina began her final journey home to Romania, where she will be laid to rest on Saturday. Although many miles will separate us our thoughts will be with her and we hope her family will find comfort."
