The restrictions are in place because the hospital is experiencing a high number of patients with Covid-19 the HSE said

ACCORDING to the HSE the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise is currently experiencing a high number of patients with Covid-19, which appears to be circulating in the community.

“As a result,” it said, “visiting restrictions have been implemented to help reduce the spread of the virus within the healthcare setting.”

It said: “Visiting restrictions are currently in place on all wards, except for Maternity and Paediatrics. Visits on critical and compassionate grounds will continue to be accommodated by contacting the Clinical Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge of the relevant ward.”

It is asking people: “Please do not visit if you feel unwell or experience any respiratory symptoms. Service users attending the hospital are also asked to wear a face mask while on the premises. These measures will be lifted as soon as possible when clinical circumstances allow."

Where possible, the management at the hospital, is asking patients with non-emergency conditions to seek assistance from other parts of the health service such as their local Pharmacy, GP, GP out of hours service (MIDOC) or a local injury unit.
