Young artists in the frame at Laois Lions poster awards

THE arts office at Laois County Council welcomed prize winners in the Lions International Peace Poster Competition to Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise last week.

The first- and second-place winners were presented with a plaque by Portlaoise Lions Club president Seán Cruise and the overall winner was Abigail Blood from Maryborough NS, Portlaoise. Abigail’s work will go forward to the next stage of the international competition.

The poster competition is an international contest that allows children aged 11 to 13 to creatively express what compassion means to them, with this year’s theme being ‘Peace without limits’.

This is the 19th year that Laois County Council has hosted the event, organised jointly by Portlaoise Lions Club and the arts office.
