FOOD lovers from across Laois gathered at Glamping Under the Stars, Cullenagh, Portlaoise for Deliciously Sustainable, a special cookery demonstration as part of the Laois Climate Action Festival 2026.
Led by renowned chef Yvonne Carty of Hey Pesto!, the event provided practical advice on meal planning, making the most of everyday ingredients and simple ways to reduce food waste at home. The appreciative audience also enjoyed live cooking demonstrations showcasing tasty, affordable meals that can help households save money while reducing their environmental impact.
Food waste remains a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and the event highlighted how small changes in the kitchen can make a real difference. Participants learned practical techniques for using leftovers creatively, storing food correctly and planning meals to reduce avoidable waste.
The event was hosted by Glamping Under the Stars, the perfect backdrop given their commitment to sustainability as a business with extensive biodiversity enhancing initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Yvonne Carty noted that food waste prevention is one of the simplest and most effective actions people can take to reduce their carbon footprint while also cutting household costs.
Deliciously Sustainable was one of more than 30 events taking place across the county as part of the Laois Climate Action Festival 2026, which encourages individuals, communities and organisations to take positive climate action through practical, engaging and accessible activities.
