O’Dwyer hat-trick fires Portarlington to championship glory

PRESENTATION Portarlington claimed division two honours over Ballyfin in a dominant display on Wednesday evening in the game of day one in O’Moore Park.

Megan McCausland split the posts to get the scoring underway while Ava O’Dwyer found the back of the net soon after when she struck on a loose ball around the goal line.

O’Dwyer went on to raise two white flags in a row to give her side an early lead. Megan Nolan then fired a well taken goal to the back of the net just before half time leaving the score at 3-2 to 0-0.

Portarlington started the second half strong, and Nolan set up O’Dwyer to raise her third green flag of the game. Meabh Moylan pointed Ballyfin’s first score while Hannah O’Neill replied for Portarlington.

Anastasia Wazushowa then added her name to the scoresheet sending the ball over the line for her teams fifth goal. Saoirse Heffernan pointed a fine score for Ballyfin, but their opponents struck again as Wazushowa found the back of the net for a second time.

Caoimhe O’Mahony took a long range shot and it landed perfectly into a pocket in the top corner of the net and was the final score of the game as Portarlington climbed the steps and lifted the division two trophy.
