Portarlington remain undefeated with another win on the road
Action from the Portarlington RFC Leinster League Division2B/3 win over Clane on Friday night
PORTARLINGTON have clocked some massive scores so far in the league but when they took on Clane at Lea Road on Friday night it was a much closer affair.
The north Kildare club, who are third from bottom, put it up to the home side throughout but hadn’t quite enough in score to pull off as surprise win.
Portarlington got off to an ideal start with two tries inside the opening quarter, Anavil Storey and Toby Neilson-Dry crossing for the touchdowns.
Approaching half time Clane had narrowed the gap to just four points thanks to 23rd and 39th minute penalties.
And the gap was down to the minimum at the end of the third quarter as Clane looked likely to pull off a shock.
From here to the final whistle the was nothing in it, each side throwing all they had at it in search of the win.
And there was a mighty sigh of relief around Lea Road when Warren Murphy crossed for a 72nd minute try, converted by Darragh Perry.
Game done and dusted and winning points secured.
Port have now won all of their games in the league thus far and head to Dublin next week to take on mid-table Garda.
