Coláiste Lorcain CC 7-5
Dunamase College 1-7
DUNAMASE College suffered shield final heartbreak at the hands of Kildare school Coláiste Lorcain. In atrocious conditions in Rathleague on Friday morning the Kildare school adapted to the conditions and ran out deserving winners.
Coláiste Lorcain sprung Greg Kelly off the bench early in the first half which proved vital as he was the difference between the two sides. His movement and accuracy were a joy to watch in such awful conditions and ended up with 4-1 to his name.
Dunamase probably played the better football in the first half but will rue missed chances as they couldn’t adapt to the strong wind, ultimately the away side used the elements better and it proved decisive.
The Portlaoise school got the ball rolling with points from Nathan Leno and James Smyth to open up a two-point lead. That was as good as it got for the home side as Coláiste Lorcain would kick into gear soon after.
A free from Patrick Rice narrowed the gap before the away side brought on Greg Kelly and he soon made an instant impact. He struck for his side’s first goal to put them ahead, and soon after a mix up from the kickout Kelly punished it to score his second goal. With the conditions it was a hard job for Dunamase to get back into the game.
The third goal came from Harry Billecar as the Kildare side took complete control. Dunamase finished the half with two points from Aaron Twomey and Alex Murphy to leave the scores 3-1 to 0-4 in favour of Coláiste Lorcain.
After the break it was the away side that started the better and they kicked the next three scores Cian Keogh got a point before the brilliant Kelly netted his hat trick and got another point to his name.
Twomey battled hard for Dunamase and kicked a brilliant free into the wind before he struck for his sides only goal. He ran through the defence evading four defenders and dispatched it to the net.
Harry Bryan made sure that there was no comeback on the cards and would find the net twice in quick succession to but the game beyond doubt. Kelly added another goal for his fourth and his sides seventh as they were ruthless throughout. Twomey kicked the last two points of the game, but The Kildare side were not to be denied.
