Nurturing the Next Generation: Ailbhe Joyce and the Power of Forest Learning

Ailbhe Joyce

Founded by Ailbhe Joyce, Laois Forest School was created from a deep belief that childhood should be slow, connected and rooted in nature. As an educator, Ailbhe saw first-hand the transformative power of outdoor learning and set out to build something different for families in Laois - a space where children are trusted, capable and free to grow.

At the heart of Laois Forest School is Ailbhe’s mission: to nurture confident, resilient children through meaningful experiences in the natural world. Her vision is simple but powerful - to create a community where children develop self-belief, environmental awareness and a lifelong connection to the outdoors.

Through child-led woodland sessions, Ailbhe guides children in developing practical skills such as shelter building, safe tool use, fire-lighting and teamwork, all while fostering curiosity and creativity. Every programme is designed with intention, balancing adventure with emotional wellbeing, and independence with belonging.

Upcoming spring and summer offerings include immersive weekend forest sessions, Toddler Stay & Play sessions and teacher training events and can be booked through laoisforestschool.com.

In the spirit of Give to Gain, Ailbhe’s work reflects a powerful truth: when we give children time, trust and space in nature, we gain stronger families, connected communities and a more grounded generation for the future.
