Big European wins for Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers

Shelbourne will take a 3-1 lead into the second leg of their Conference League playoff with Linfield next week.

Harry Wood's penalty, plus second-half goals from Mipo Odubeko and Evan Caffrey, gave Joey O'Brien's side the win at Tolka Park.

Odubeko missed a spot kick in the first-half, while Linfield were reduced to 10 men following Matt Fitzpatrick's red card.

Shamrock Rovers will also take a lead into the second leg of their Conference League clash.

Rovers beat Portuguese side Santa Clara 2-1 away in the Azores.

Danny Grant and Danny Mandroiu got the goals to put the Hoops 2-1 up ahead of next week's game in Tallaght.
