Soccer

The Republic of Ireland women's team have had their second win over Poland in a week.

Marissa Sheva's goal separated the sides at full-time in their World Cup qualifying game at the Aviva Stadium.

It left Carla Ward's side with 6 points from 4 games so far.

Denise O'Sullivan and Emily Murphy picked up yellow cards and will both miss the next game against the Netherlands.

Later, the Dutch face off with fellow Group 2 side France at 8.10pm.

Wolves have edged closer to relegation from the Premier League with a 3-0 defeat to Leeds.

They will go down tonight if Tottenham win against Brighton.

It's 1-1 in that game with Pedro Porro's opener cancelled out by a Kaoru Mitoma strike.

Newcastle lost 2-1 to Bournemouth at St James' Park, putting further pressure on manager Eddie Howe.

Earlier, Brentford and Fulham finished goalless.

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher kept his 9th clean sheet of the season in that one.

The big game of the day sees the chase for Champions League football continue at Stamford Bridge as Manchester United face Chelsea, who've lost their last three top-flight matches, from 8pm.

Rugby

Ireland are strolling to victory over Italy in round 2 of the Women's Six Nations this evening.

Beibhin Parsons has scored a hat-trick as the hosts lead 50-10 in the second half at the Dexcom Stadium in Galway.

A record crowd for an Irish women's rugby game is expected at that one.

In the early game, England thrashed Scotland by 84 points to 7.

Munster are looking to put another tough week off the pitch behind them this evening.

They are in Italy to take on Benetton in the URC from 7.45pm.

Questions have been asked about their appointment of attacking coach Roger Randle and his past.

Also in the URC, Connacht came from behind to beat the Stormers by 33 points to 24 in South Africa.

John Devine scored his first try for the visitors while Sean Naughton scored the clincher late on.

GAA

Galway look set to open their Leinster hurling championship with a win this evening.

They lead 14-man Kilkenny by 3-14 to 0-12 in the second half at Pearse Stadium.

John Donnelly was sent off for the Cats at the start of that second half.

Also in that tournament, Dublin lead Offaly 1-07 to 1-06 and it's Kildare 0-03 Wexford 0-06 heading for half time.

The Ulster football championship continues this evening as well.

Derry have eased into the semi-finals of the Ulster Football Championship this evening.

They were too good for Antrim and won their quarter final 2-23 to 1-13.

Lachlan Murray and Paul Cassidy scored the goals for the victors.

Dublin have gotten the better of Offaly in the Leinster Camogie championship this afternoon.

Grace O'Shea scored two goals as the Dubs ran out 3-15 to 2-9 winners in Tullamore.

Roisin Kirwan was the hero for Waterford as they beat Clare after extra time in the Munster championship.

Dublin GAA say they have been unsuccessful in their attempts to see Ger Brennan's ban overturned.

The football boss was suspended for 12 weeks following his clash with a member of Galway's backroom staff during a league game last month.

He appealed the case to the Disputes Resolution Authority, which met this morning but ruled against the All Ireland winner.

It means Dean Rock will deputise in his place for tomorrow's Leinster football game against Wicklow.

Brennan will also miss the opening two games of their Sam Maguire campaign.

Snooker

It is the opening day of the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield.

Mark Williams will take a 6 frames to 3 lead over Poland's Antoni Kowalski into the second session of their first round match.

The first to 10 frames will progress to the next round.

Later, world champion Zhao Xintong resumes his first round match with Liam Highfield, leading 5-4.
