Stradbally win the battle of the Towns

Stradbally Town who secured their third league win of the season with the defeat of Tuppamore Town on Sunday

Tullamore Town 0

Stradbally Town 2

STRADBALLY made the trip across to Leah Victoria Park in Tullamore Sunday morning looking for their third league win of the season. They started well and dominated possession early in the game with the home keeper having to pull off some fine saves to keep his team level.

The men in green took the lead on 18 minutes with a fine finish from Benny Lawlor and this was followed up with well taken second from Cillian Maher on 29 minutes leaving it 0-2 at the break.

Stradbally faced into a stiff breeze in the second period with possession more balanced but they limited Tullamore to no clear cut chances.

They might have made the game more comfortable only for a combination of fine goalkeeping by the Tullamore netminder and some poor finishing but it made no difference as Stradbally deservedly saw out the game to take the three points back across the Laois border.

This was a good team display with special mention to Podge Fitzpatrick, Benny Lawlor, Cillian Maher and Justin Lawlor.

Stradbally welcome Portlaoise AFC to Charter Road next Sunday morning in what’s shaping up to be a cracking local derby.

STRADBALLY TOWN: Jack Larkin, Colin Beale, Jack Deegan, Sean Devoy, Podge Fitzpatrick, Conor Buggie, Justin Lalor, Cillian Maher, John Clancy, Benny Lawlor and Eoin Buggie.

Subs: Eamon Delaney for Lalor, Charlie O’Brien for Clancy, Cailium Kelly, Tadgh Mullen and Noah Delaney.
