Strong start seals Holy Family victory

HOLY Family and Scoil Bhríde Portlaoise had the honour of getting the two days of Cumann na mBunscol finals underway, as they contested the opening game of the schedule on Wednesday morning in the Division 6 Camogie decider.

From the opening stages, Holy Family took control and quickly established a commanding lead with some excellent attacking play.

Maya Olah was in outstanding form, finding the net twice in the opening half, while Sophie O’Connor also raised a green flag.

Scoil Bhríde goalkeeper Maja Furutin produced a series of impressive saves to keep the scoreboard from becoming even more one-sided.

At the other end, Scoil Bhríde created a number of promising chances themselves, but Holy Family keeper Skylar Mokam stood firm and denied them any breakthrough scores.

Molly Bergin contributed two points before the break, with Arabella Phelan also getting on the scoresheet as Holy Family carried a 3-3 to 0-0 advantage into half time.

Holy Family maintained the pressure after the restart, with the excellent Maya Olah completing her hat-trick before adding a fourth goal to her tally.

Molly Bergin then took centre stage for a spell, adding two further points and also finishing to the net.

To their credit, Scoil Bhríde continued battling until the final whistle and kept working hard to create scoring opportunities, but they were unable to find a way past the Holy Family defence.

Elora O’Loughlin added the final goal of the contest to cap off an impressive display as Holy Family secured the Division 6 title.
