Fitzpatrick impresses on international debut at SIAB Championships

SINEAD Fitzpatrick delivered a standout performance at the SIAB Schools Cross-Country Championships, marking a superb international debut on Saturday. When representing Heywood Community School. Sinead competed on a challenging and undulating course set within the scenic Faenol Estate. Despite the demanding terrain, she demonstrated remarkable determination and composure throughout the Junior Girls race.

Fitzpatrick crossed the finish line in an impressive seventh place overall and was the second Irish runner home, playing a crucial role in securing a team bronze medal for Ireland. Her performance contributed significantly to Ireland’s third place finish in a highly competitive international field.

The event, held in Bangor, Wales brought together some of the most talented young athletes from across schools in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Sinead's achievement marks a memorable conclusion to her cross-country season and signals a bright future ahead in the sport.

Leinster Star Awards Ceremony 

Athletes from Co. Laois were recognised for their outstanding achievements at the prestigious Leinster Star Awards ceremony, held at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel on Saturday.

Among those honoured were Leo Smith, who received the Juvenile Male award, and Katie Baldwin, who was presented with the Senior award. Both athletes attended the ceremony in person to accept their accolades, celebrating a successful year in athletics for the county.

Also recognised was Sinead Fitzpatrick, who earned the Juvenile Female award. However, Fitzpatrick was unable to attend the event due to her participation in the SIAB Cross-Country Championships in Wales. Her award was accepted on her behalf by club coach, Patsy Baldwin.

The Athletics Leinster Star Awards celebrate the achievements and dedication of athletes across the province, highlighting excellence at both juvenile and senior levels.
